Originally imagined by civil rights attorney Floyd McKissick, Soul City was a planned, Black-led community in North Carolina meant to foster economic independence, political power, and cultural pride in the aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement. Though the project was dismantled before it could flourish, the spirit of Soul City lives on in dreamers, builders, and disruptors who believe in creating new systems from the ground up.
